A biopic about the life of Ip Man, a kung-fu master and the patriarch of the Wing Chun martial arts style. After Ip Man's death, his son, Ip Ching becomes a Wing Chun instructor and uses his skills to help overthrow Japanese rule in China. Ip Ching meets Bruce Lee and trains with him for a short time before returning to teach in Hong Kong. His students continue training his style creating anew school called "Wing Chun". But as passing of time diverts more attention towards other martial arts such as Muay Thai and Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun starts losing its relevance as an art. Ip Ching has been a pivotal character in the films of the popular Hong Kong martial arts star Donnie Yen. The two films starring Yen as Ip Ching are "Ip Man" and "Ip Man 2". In the film, Ip Ching has a daughter who has been taken away from him by his wife whom he had an affair with. In real life, Ip Ching's daughter is named Angela Chan and was raised by her mother Ngan Shu-ling after she was born out of wedlock. [See bottom section] [NOTE: Something to think about... This Angela Chan is also a martial arts master, but her skills are not Wing Chun.]The film was released in Hong Kong on 29 December 2010. In the United States, it was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 8 April 2011. It was shown in Malaysian Movie Fest 2011. In 2005, a year after the release of "Ip Man", producer Raymond Wong announced that a sequel would be made. In early 2009, director Wilson Yip stated that he would be going to shoot "Ip Man 2" after completing work on "". It was originally intended to star Donnie Yen as Ip Man and be released in 3D for 2010. However, in an interview with "Kung Fu Cinema", Wilson Yip explained that the film had already completed shooting, but was delayed because of the post-production process. The film is also now in 2D. Donnie Yen then stated that he would only appear in the film if the quality of the film was high enough. At one point, Yen had asked to take a year off from filming to rest his body after dealing with Ip Man for two years. After "Ip Man" was released, Yen received awards for Best Actor at several major Asian film festivals including Hong Kong International Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival. During the process of shooting, Yen was asked to play Ip Man again for a third film. But he refused, citing "Ip Man 3" would be too much work for him after having played Ip Man in two films back-to-back. Principal photography began on 6 July 2010 at Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang, China. Shooting took place in locations in mainland China including Zhejiang, Sichuan and Beijing. Shooting wrapped up on 15 August 2010. Although most film sequels or prequels are filmed back-to-back, "Ip Man 2" is not part of the same filming series as "Ip Man". cfa1e77820
